Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain, and is characterized by stabbing pain in the bottom of the foot. It is caused by inflammation or tears in the band of tissue connecting your toes to your heel. When injury or overused cause this tissue to become inflamed, it causes pain. Pain from plantar fasciitis is especially severe after you have been sitting for long periods of time.
While this condition is most common in adults age 40-60, factors such as genetics, weight, physical activities, and physically demanding occupations also play a role. When you visit our office, our chiropractor will review your medical history and perform a comprehensive physical examination, including checking your feet for tenderness. We may also take an X-ray. After confirming that you have plantar fasciitis and determining the exact area of your pain, we will create an individualized treatment plan to manage your pain. Common treatments for plantar Fasciitis include:
- Physical therapy
- Weight loss
- Orthotics
We may also recommend that you use over-the-counter pain relievers in combination with icing, stretching, and resting for several weeks to strengthen your foot and leg.
